Kansas City Chiefs’ star tight end, Travis Kelce, is gearing up to improve his golf game at this year’s American Century Celebrity Golf Championship Tournament.
On the latest episode of the “New Heights” podcast, which he co-hosts with his brother Jason, Kelce humorously noted his less-than-stellar performances in previous tournaments but expressed optimism for better results this time around.
“Maybe my shots will be more Swift,” Kelce quipped, referencing his rumored relationship with pop icon Taylor Swift.
Kelce’s golf scores have historically been “atrocious,” as he candidly admitted, but that was before he secured his third Super Bowl victory and began dating Swift.
The Kansas City Chiefs clinched back-to-back Super Bowl wins in 2023 and 2024, adding to their 2020 championship. Kelce’s recent successes on the football field have undoubtedly boosted his confidence, and he is hopeful that it will translate to the golf course.
Swift, who is currently on tour in Europe, won’t be able to cheer Kelce on from the sidelines. However, tournament directors expect that Kelce will still attract a considerable number of fans, many of whom are likely new supporters drawn by his association with the pop star.
Kelce shared a humorous take on his typical experience at the tournament. “The last Sunday is typically me walking straight from the parking lot to the green and just hoping I get through it without passing out,” he said on the podcast. He admitted that he usually stops keeping track of his performance after the first two days of the event.
This year’s tournament will also see Jason Kelce, Travis’s brother and co-host, making his debut in the celebrity golf competition. The event, held at Edgewood Tahoe in South Lake Tahoe, attracts big names from professional sports, acting, and politics. It kicks off on Wednesday with practice rounds and runs through Sunday.
Travis Kelce had some light-hearted advice for his brother, who recently retired after 13 seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles. “Just don’t feel bad if you hit somebody because they bought the ticket knowing it’s a bunch of amateurs out there trying to play golf,” he joked, highlighting the unpredictable and entertaining nature of the tournament.
As the Kelce brothers prepare to take on the golf course, fans are eagerly anticipating the mix of athleticism and humor they bring. The American Century Celebrity Golf Championship promises to be an exciting event, showcasing the lighter side of these professional athletes.
