Eagles 2024 training camp: One player to watch at each position on offense

Josh Jacobs chats about USAA partnership and his new team, the Green Bay Packers
We’re just days away from Eagles training camp 2024, and Philadelphia has diligently retooled the coaching staff and roster.

For the first time since 2010, the team will be without Fletcher Cox and Jason Kelce.

The Eagles have been active this offseason on offense, adding Saquon Barkley and Kenny Pickett, among others, while a handful of other free agents departed.

We’re looking at one player to watch at each offensive position for the Birds.

QB–Jalen Hurts

Hurts is healthy after dealing with a knee injury most of last season, and we will be watching to see velocity on the football and explosive running from the quarterback, who’ll once again be learning a new system.

RB –Kenneth Gainwell

Saquon Barkley is the guy, and former Clemson running back Will Shipley is the future. How can Gainwell separate himself while showing Kellen Moore his versatility in a contract year?

TE–Grant Calcaterra

Kellen Moore likes to employ two tight end sets, and the former SMU pass catcher has an opportunity for critical snaps if he can show the Eagles’ new offensive coordinator that he’s versatile and a willing run blocker.

OL –Mekhi Becton

The right guard position is supposed to be Tyler Steen’s to lose, but experts in the know believe it’ll be the Big Ticket starting next to Lane Johnson. Former NFL defensive tackle and expert Brian Baldinger recently said this about Becton.

“Mekhi Becton (the 11th overall pick in the 2020 draft by the New York Jets) had some knee issues in the past, but he has more power than anyone on the whole team,” Baldinger said. “He is the best run blocker that the Eagles have. If he is healthy, he will play right guard for them. They are working him in there. I would keep an eye on Mekhi. He is on their depth chart backing up Mailata right now at left tackle. He is a big guy. I think Becton has a shot at being right guard. Right now, Tyler Steen probably has the advantage there because he knows the Eagles’ system.”

WR –Joseph Ngata

The Eagles second-year wide receiver could benefit most from DeVante Parker’s retirement announcement. Ngata nearly made the roster last summer, and the big, physical receiver could have a breakout performance.
