Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been branded “tone deaf” by a royal commentator over their declining popularity as the couple are “immersed in their own narrative”.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been making headlines recently after Harry controversially received the prestigious Pat Tillman Award for Service at the ESPYs last Thursday,

where he was joined by his wife and made an emotional speech that paid tribute to his mother, the late Princess of Wales.

Harry said the bond between a mother and son “transcends even the greatest losses” and acknowledged the family of Mr Tillman, “especially Mrs Mary Tillman – Pat’s mother”, which comes after she had expressed her disapproval of his selection for the award.

Now Vanity Fair’s royal correspondent Katie Nicholl said that while the duke played the part of his speech focusing on the Invictus Games during the glitzy awards “well”, the Sussex couple have a tendency to be “slightly tone deaf” when it comes to the people’s perception of them.

Asked about whether the Montecito couple understands whether they’re controversial figures on Kinsey Schofield’s Heirs and Spares programme, Ms Nicholl said: “I think they probably are so immersed in their own narrative that they find it quite hard to understand why people take a pop at them.

“They probably find it so hard to understand why they are do divisive. I do think that sometimes they have the tendency to come over as being slightly tone deaf”.
