The US Women’s Rugby team has garnered a wave of new fans since the Tokyo Olympics kicked off on July 26, but perhaps none as enthusiastic as former Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce.
On Sunday, July 28, Kelce visited the team after their victorious match against Brazil, quickly becoming a beloved figure among the players.
The encounter between Kelce and the rugby team was full of camaraderie and humor, spearheaded by player Alona Maher.
Known for her engaging social media presence, Maher didn’t waste any time trying to recruit Kelce as the team’s unofficial mascot.
“Women’s Water Polo has Flavor Flav as their Super Fan,” Maher pointed out to Kelce during his visit. “You are a girl dad,” she added, referencing Kelce’s known dedication to his daughters.
In the video clip capturing the visit, Kelce, sporting a beret, humorously responded to Maher’s pitch. “Do you get anything from being our Super Fan? No,” Maher joked. “There’s no reward, no money, no benefits. I don’t think I can get you free stuff.”
“You’re a great salesman,” Kelce teased back, before turning to the camera and confirming, “I am officially a fan of women’s rugby.” The declaration was met with cheers from Maher and her teammates.
Kelce’s support for the team didn’t stop there. On July 30, he was photographed wearing a red, white, and blue button-up shirt featuring Maher’s face, a moment that quickly became iconic after Maher reposted it on her Instagram story. Additionally, a video showed Kelce casually tossing around a rugby ball, captioned “casual day at the office,” further cementing his new role as a super fan.
Kelce’s wife, Kylie Kelce, also got in on the fun, sharing a lighthearted snap of her husband taking a break after all the excitement.
Since then, Kelce’s super fan status has only grown, bringing even more attention and support to the US Women’s Rugby team as they continue their Olympic journey.
