Patrick Mahomes has broken his silence on refusing to follow in the footsteps of Taylor Swift, who endorsed Kamala Harris on her Instagram handle after the US presidential debate on Tuesday. Swift said that she will vote for Harris however, Mahomes has denied revealing his first choice for the US president’s post.
The Kansas City Chiefs superstar quarterback will not endorse Donald Trump or Kamala Harris. Mahomes was seen in the company of Taylor Swift, her beau Travis Kelce, and Brittany, his wife as the quartet attended the US Open final on Sunday.
The three-time Super Bowl winner clarified that he didn’t intend to use his social media reach to advocate for either Trump or Harris, instead, he urged the people to go out and vote in maximum numbers.
“I don’t want my place and my platform to be used to endorse a candidate or do whatever, either way,” said Mahomes, when quizzed if he would show support for Trump.
Brittany Mahomes had earlier caused a frenzy when she liked a post from Donald Trump, after which the former president himself came out in public to thank the NFL icon’s wife.
“I think my place is to inform people to get registered to vote. It is to inform people to do their own research and then make their best decision for them and their family,” Patrick Mahomes stated.
When quizzed about Taylor Swift’s choice to endorse Kamala Harris, Donald Trump clarified that he isn’t a big fan of the pop icon, and has instead liked Mrs. Mahomes, who he said was a big fan.
“I actually like Mrs. Mahomes much better if you want to know the truth. She is a big Trump fan. I was not a Taylor Swift fan,” Trump told Fox News.
When Patrick Mahomes was further pressed on Donald Trump’s mention of his wife, the two-time NFL MVP said that he remains unbothered by any political figures using his family’s name to their benefit. Mahomes and Kelce will next be seen in action on 16 September as the Chiefs take on the Bengals.
