It’s no surprise that sporty 3-year-old Sterling Skye Mahomes wants to take after her father, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
However, one particularly bad habit she got from her dad raised the alarm for Brittany Mahomes while the two played golf together.

The Mahomes family is full of athletes, and early on, they have engaged Sterling and her little brother Bronze with playing countless sports.
One of their favorites is golf, and although the Mahomeses feature a golf course at their Kansas City mansion for practice, Sterling’s swing still needs some work.
In the video posted by her mom Brittany on Instagram, Sterling misses the ball on her first attempt, and then whips her head around and delivers a line right out of Patrick’s playbook.
“That was a practice swing,” she said, making an adorable excuse. She had to repeat the same comment again before making contact on her third try, thanks to some helpful tips from Brittany.
“She really said that was a practice swing,” the soon-to-be mother of three wrote to her 2 million Instagram followers, tagging her hubby so he would see the funny clip of their defiant daughter.
When things go wrong on the gridiron for Mahomes, he is often the first one to reach for an excuse, too. In particular, he has a reputation among fans as “whiny” and always asking the refs to throw flags in favor of the Chiefs.
While some fans look at his attitude as “making excuses,” others will see a fierce competitor with a desire to win so strong that it has led Kansas City to three Super Bowl titles in the last five seasons.
The reigning Super Bowl MVP will hope that’s the part his daughter learns from him as she begins her young athletic career.
“Me and Brittany both played sports growing up. I think there’s lots of values that you can learn from playing sports of all kinds,” Patrick said previously. “I try to swing the golf club around her as much as possible, so one day I could take her out to the course with me.”
