Mark Blundell highlighted the key factor that would help Lewis Hamilton’s deem the late-career move to Ferrari as a ‘success’.
Lewis Hamilton has already started the preparations to join Ferrari in the 2025 season. The Briton is looking forward to ending his tenure with Mercedes on a high after the season finale.
Moreover, the Italian constructor is also keen to welcome the seven-time world champion with open hands. Hence, amidst the preparations, Ex-F1 driver Mark Blundell pointed out the ‘key factor’ crucial for the move to be deemed a success.
Amidst Mercedes’s degrading form in the latter half of the 2024 season, Lewis Hamilton is already looking forward to the move. The 39-year-old is hoped to help take the Italian constructor back to their glory days.
Blundell reckoned that the key factor for Hamilton’s success with the team depended on the fact that he was provided with whatever he required. This meant that the chassis performance should be up to the mark as the Briton wouldn’t make a difference if the kit could not perform on the track.
I think he’s got what’s required to win a title if he’s given what he needs. That’s the key factor. Drivers turning up to teams is great because they come with everything that they’ve got behind them and they’ve got all the credentials, but if the team doesn’t then turn up with a kit that can perform on the track, then it doesn’t matter how good the driver is going to be, he is never going to make the difference.

Hamilton scored two highly coveted race wins this season after Mercedes provided him with a decent chassis. Hence, there needed to be an equalization between the driver and the machinery. Moreover, the circumstances needed to suit the seven-time world champion at the Prancing Horse. These factors were a part of the key factors essential for the 39-year-old’s performance at Ferrari.
There has to be this sort of an equalised performance basis of driver and car. If the circumstances suit, that’s not there all the time in terms of consistency, but I think that’s one of the key areas.

Ferrari hasn’t tasted championship victory since the 2008 season as they have come close to winning on some occasions. Moreover, the love for the Italian Constructor peaks at an all-time high with the changing seasons. Hence, Mark Blundell believed that Lewis Hamilton winning for Ferrari would be a great point for the motorsport as well as the Italian masses to see their beloved team win a title.
I’d certainly love to see it. I think it’d be great for motorsport, be great for British motorsport and I know for sure, it’d be great for the Italian fans to see Ferrari take a world title.

Hence, all these factors mean that Hamilton will have a great basis to start performing well with the team from the get-go.
