Fred Vasseur did not hold back from taking a dig at Sauber’s Mattia Binotto for making a comment on Lewis Hamilton’s Ferrari move.
Scuderia Ferrari shocked the sporting world when it signed Lewis Hamilton for the 2025 season. Team boss Fred Vasseur received mixed reactions, including one from ex-Ferrari Team Principal Mattia Binotto. Now, Vasseur has hit back at Binotto who now runs Audi’s Sauber F1 project.
Mattia Binotto had stated that he would not have brought in Hamilton to Ferrari. The Italian claimed that Charles Leclerc was the long-term driver for the team and its plans were based around the Monegasque driver.
Fred Vasseur joked that Lewis Hamilton would not have been so keen on joining Sauber, the team presently led by Binotto. The Frenchman was amused to see so many people in the paddock make comments on his decision to sign the seven-time world champion in one of the biggest driver moves in F1 history.

Coincidentally, Vasseur used to be the team boss at Sauber before moving to Ferrari in 2023. Fred Vasseur gave an indirect advice to his successor at Hinwil. The 56-year-old pointed out that he never made comments over Ferrari’s decisions during his time running the Swiss team. Thus, the Frenchman indicated that Binotto should stay away from making such remarks.
I am focused on our work. After all, when I was at Sauber I didn’t talk about Ferrari.

Fred Vasseur is not bothered by Mattia Binotto’s comments. The Frenchman has a solid plan for Ferrari’s future. Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc arguably form the strongest pairing on the grid next season. However, it remains to be seen if the Scuderia can end its title drought next year.
