Fred Vasseur believes that Lewis Hamilton is the best solution for Ferrari over their 2026 championship victory ambitions.
Lewis Hamilton is all set to join Ferrari in the 2025 season and getting up to speed from the very first session. The Italian constructor might just return to their championship-winning ways in Formula 1 with Hamilton. Hence, after finishing a difficult 2024 season, Ferrari boss Fred Vasseur pointed out the benefits for the team in the coming seasons after acquiring the seven-time world champion.
Mercedes decided to take the risk of acquiring the prodigy Kimi Antonelli in their lineup for the 2025 season following Lewis Hamilton‘s departure. Fred Vasseur reckoned that he didn’t need to comment on the rival team’s decision. However, the Frenchman’s main focus was to figure out the best option for his team. As a result, Vasseur labeled Hamilton as the ‘best solution’ for Maranello even in the 2026 season under new regulations.
I don’t have the pretension or arrogance to comment on the choices of other teams. I think there is no rule behind these choices, but you need to do what is best in your context at a specific time. I think Hamilton is the best solution for us today also in view of the regulatory changes of 2026.

Vasseur further complimented Antonelli and highlighted that he had great preparation after participating in F2. However, Mercedes still took a big hit after losing the star from their team in the upcoming season. Regardless, the 56-year-old highlighted that Ferrari ‘needed’ Hamilton as depicted from the events.
I think the F2 is an excellent preparation and that Antonelli will be well prepared, since he has done many kilometers with the TPC cars. But we needed Hamilton.

Ferrari managed a massive upturn in performance in the 2024 season. These results could only strengthen after Lewis Hamilton’s entry. Fred Vasseur noted that he knew Hamilton and his capabilities very well. As a result, he didn’t hesitate to claim that the Briton would fit into Ferrari’s system with great ease.
I know Hamilton very well, I know his motivations, his way of working. I don’t want to make comparisons with other drivers, but I’m convinced that he will fit perfectly into our system.

The Briton will also have to patiently explain his driving style and his chassis setup in order to get up to speed quickly.
