Mercedes chief makes ‘tempted back to McLaren’ remark ahead of Lewis Hamilton’s Ferrari move

The seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton amassed his first title with the McLaren Formula 1 team in 2007.

Lewis Hamilton will be seen repping the iconic Red of the Ferrari Formula 1 team from 2025 onwards. This was announced ahead of the 2024 season but some of the die-hard fans are still not over this.

However, amidst the growing noise, Mercedes team coordinator Stephen Lord has made a fascinating McLaren remark.

As per the Brit, he always felt that Lewis Hamilton was going to move back to the Zak Brown-led McLaren after his Mercedes stint. The former amassed the very first F1 championship of his career with the Woking-based outfit in 2007.

Mercedes chief makes ‘tempted back to McLaren’ remark ahead of Lewis Hamilton’s Ferrari move

Not at all. Because I think that’s been his plan all along. A few years ago, it came up in conversation. I actually always thought he might be tempted back to McLaren, but I was completely wrong. We had a conversation years ago and he always said that he felt most drivers had a desire to, at least at some point in their career, drive the Ferrari.

Hamilton spent over a decade with the Brackley-based team from 2013 until the end of the 2024 F1 season. He has now moved to the Fred Vasseur-led Ferrari and will partner up with Charles Leclerc in pursuit of his record-breaking eighth world championship.

F1 drivers ‘inevitably’ at some point want to move to Ferrari F1

The Ferrari outfit is probably the biggest name in the world of F1. It has been regularly competing in the sport since the 1950s and has over the decades, amassed an impressive 16 Constructors’ and 15 Drivers’ World Championships.

In light of this and the overall image Ferrari has all over the world, Stephen Lord understands Lewis Hamilton’s decision.

They’re the oldest, most recognisable team in the pit lane, the history and the esteem that that marque is held in, I think it’s inevitable that people would want to go there.

Hamilton’s move to Maranello has created a bit of a frenzy among the Tifosi fanbase. They are eagerly looking forward to seeing the seven-time world champion wear the Red outfit for the Ferrari F1 team.

However, while things are looking extremely positive heading into 2025, the 39-year-old will have to quickly adjust in a new setup. Otherwise, the prolific Brit could face some problems during the initial races of the 2025 F1 season.
