Mercedes Engineer Andrew Shovlin pinpointed how Lewis Hamilton’s work ethic brings immense energy to a team.
Lewis Hamilton raced for Mercedes for over a decade in F1. During this period, the Briton achieved record-breaking success. Now, as the seven-time world champion departs Brackley for Ferrari, Mercedes Engineer Andrew Shovlin has praised the 39-year-old’s work ethic.
Shovlin claimed that Hamilton seemed to almost have a phobia of losing. This further drives the work ethic of the Briton. The Mercedes Engineer highlighted that having such a driver pushes the team continuously as Lewis Hamilton constantly wanted to improve.
Lewis has got his own, it’s almost like a phobia of losing that drives his work ethic. And that’s great, because when you get a driver who brings that to the team, they are endlessly pushing, endlessly wanting to improve.

Subsequently, this mindset brought in more energy to the Silver Arrows, particularly during Lewis Hamilton’s period of dominance. Andrew Shovlin highlighted that this work ethic and the worry of the seven-time world champion set him apart from the rest of the grid. As such in the eyes of Shovlin, the likes of Max Verstappen or Lando Norris still lack this aspect.
It brings an awful lot of energy to the team… It is the work and the worry that that triggers within Lewis that I think sets them aside from most others.

He reckoned that the seven-time world champion was committed to success for Mercedes. Though, in the past year, it seemed that Lewis Hamilton had grown increasingly frustrated over the team’s performance. the Briton was even ready to quit the team after the Brazilian GP.
He’s good fun to work with. He’s committed to success, as we all are, and in a team, that’s what you would ask of everybody.

The seven-time world champion has high ambitions for his stint at Ferrari, potentially achieving the remainder of his goals in the sport. However, it remains to be seen if the 39-year-old will get the right car from the Scuderia to accomplish his targets.
