Ex-F1 champion warns Lewis Hamilton with ‘difficult to recover’ remark ahead of Ferrari debut

Lewis Hamilton will have several eyes glued on him in his debut campaign with the extremely popular Ferrari Formula 1 team.

Lewis Hamilton will be repping the iconic Red of Ferrari from 2025 onwards. He has signed a multi-year deal with the outfit and amidst this, the former two-time world champion Mika Hakkinen has taken the time to warn the Brit.

Mika Hakkinen believes the upcoming Formula 1 season could be a bit painful for Lewis Hamilton. The seven-time world champion is joining the Maranello-based outfit with the intention of amassing the record-breaking eighth world championship.

In line with this, Hakkinen recently added the following.

We, drivers, know how this sport goes, the teams don’t like it if we lose their stain. But it’s hard to say to yourself: It’s over. Lewis has won many championships, I can imagine what a driver like him feels. Obviously he feels very strong and has confidence in himself. He thinks he can do it, but if he loses this awareness, it would be difficult to recover.

Hakkinen has emphasized how important self-belief is going to be for Hamilton in the 2025 season. It is worth mentioning that the 39-year-old will be going up against the prolific Charles Leclerc at Ferrari who is regarded by many as one of the best qualifiers in the sport.

I think there’s another point in that chronological trajectory as well – and please don’t hate me for saying it, because it’s just physiological – [and it’s] that Lewis starts to slow down a little bit. When that is, we don’t know. It’s definitely not in the next year or two, because if you look at how psychologically strong he is, how motivated he is, how physically fit the guy is – look how he takes care of himself – that’s not coming anytime soon.

In the 2025 F1 season, several eyes will be glued on the Ferrari garage and its extremely experienced pit wall. Having two potent drivers will force Fred Vasseur (team principal) and Co. to make some tough decisions during the Grand Prix events. Considering everything that has been discussed, fireworks could go off between Hamilton and Leclerc in the last year of the ground-effect regulations.
