Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce contemplated retirement after his team’s devastating loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX. However, he couldn’t stay away from the game he loved.

So, Kelce made the decision to return for the 2025 season.

And when speaking with The Athletic at the NFL Annual League meetings, Reid gave an important update about Kelce’s offseason training.

“He wants to come back and he’s training like crazy, too,” Reid told The Athletic’s Nate Taylor.

Kelce was criticized a lot last season for his slow start to the season and his lower statistical production. However, Reid did take some of the blame for that, revealing that they need to find better ways to help him on offense instead of having to rely solely on him at all times.

And that includes having him rest a little bit more. Kelce played 84% of the Chiefs offensive snaps last season, but that’s expected to change.

“I’ll see when he comes back and see where he’s at,” Reid explained. “He’s learning when to come out when he needs it.

“We were banged up at the (receiver) positions, so that doesn’t help a tight end’s cause at all. The healthier we can be around him, he can still be productive.”

Year 13 is going to be fun.

At the beginning of March, Kelce answered the question fans desperately wanted to know on his popular New Heights podcast.

“Kansas City, we’re back at it for at least one more year. I can’t say whether or not this will be the last year because I still love a lot of what I do for the city of Kansas City and the Chiefs organization,” Kelce said. “I know I got one on my contract and I’m going to give you everything I got.”

It’s clear the the tight end still loves the game despite the wear and tear it takes on his body. He even said exactly that when describing why he decided to return.

“I think the biggest thing is that I f***ing love playing the game of football, man,” Kelce explained. “I love playing. I still feel like I can play at a high level, and possibly at a higher level than last year. I don’t think it was my best outing. I think I let my guys down in a lot more moment then I helped them.”

“And I love so many people in Kansas City, both in that facility and the community,” he added. “And it’s home for me now. I don’t want to leave that life yet. I put in a lot of hard work and a lot of focus into being the best that I can for KC and last year, it just didn’t end well for us. And I feel like there’s a responsibility in me to play out the contract I initially signed, to give Kansas City and the Chiefs organization everything that I got, and that’s what I’m going to do.”
