Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton again caused a stir in the Formula 1 world after a controversial incident during the GP of Hungary 2025.
In round 42 of the race, the two rivals almost collided, when Verstappen got a daring captive attempt to prevent the turn of the bend 4. classification.
Although there was no physical contact, the action was immediately subject to discussion and an official investigation was announced by the FIA shortly after the race.

The first analysis of telemetry data and onboard images seemed to indicate that Verstappen was braking and slid the space, forcing Hamilton to get off the track. Many in the paddock, including some former drivers and analysts, called the campaign “cross -border” and “irresponsible”. There were rumors that the FIA Verstappen could impose a time penalty or even grid penalty for the next race, depending on the outcome of the investigation.
However, what attracted the most attention was the unexpected reaction of Lewis Hamilton after the race. Where many expected a fierce conviction, the seven -time world champion opted for a calm and reconciling tone. In an interview with Sky Sports, Hamilton stated: “I know that Max is always aggressive racet, but that is part of this sport. This was an intense moment, but I don’t think he was deliberately acting dangerously. We race at the sharpest of the cut, and sometimes such things happen. Let’s keep the cool.”
Those words surprise both fans and commentators. Hamilton, who often bumped with Verstappen in the past-both literally and figuratively-this time seemed to consciously opt for de-escalation. He continued: “Every driver knows what the risks are. I trust that the stewards do their job well. We all have to take responsibility, but we must also continue to treat each other as professionals.”
Verstappen himself refused to comment on the incident. He left the circuit without talking to the press, and Red Bull only gave a short explanation in which they stated that Max “just fought hard for position”. Christian Horner, the team boss, did not give an extensive explanation but indicated that he was “completely disagreed” with the criticism of his driver.
The FIA is expected to come up with an official decision within 48 hours. If Verstappen is punished, it can have serious consequences for the championship. The race in Hungary, which was already exciting at the sporting level, now gets a legal and moral tail that the Formula 1 world will not be released for the time being.
