As the 2026 Formula 1 season approaches, Lewis Hamilton has addressed the growing speculation about a potential championship battle with his Ferrari teammate Charles Leclerc.

Rather than fueling a rivalry, Hamilton made one thing clear: the team’s success comes first.

With Ferrari showing impressive pace during pre-season testing in Bahrain, expectations are rising that the Italian team could be a genuine championship contender.

But Hamilton says his focus isn’t on beating Leclerc — it’s on bringing the title back to Ferrari.

“Ferrari Is One”

Speaking to the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera, Hamilton emphasized the unity inside the team.

“Ferrari is one: in Italy and abroad, people love it like they love the Pope,” Hamilton said.

He explained that creating internal division between drivers would only harm the team’s chances.

“My goal is not to divide the fans. We both want to win. Of course I would like to be the one who does it, but the team comes first.”

Hamilton also praised Leclerc, recognizing both his speed and his commitment to the team.

“Charles is a phenomenal driver — both in terms of his driving style and his work ethic. He’s been here for eight years.”

A Fresh Start for Hamilton

Hamilton’s first season with Ferrari didn’t go as planned.

After joining the team in 2025, he struggled to adapt to a car that was already near the end of its development cycle. Throughout the season, Leclerc often held the performance advantage.

But the seven-time world champion believes 2026 represents a completely different opportunity.

Hamilton revealed that he has been involved in the development of the new Ferrari car for more than a year.

“I’ve been working on the 2026 car for 14 months. Compared to the previous one, this car has a bit of my DNA — and that excites me.”

With new regulations arriving in 2026, the reset could allow Hamilton to compete on more equal footing with his teammate.

The Mindset That Keeps Him Competitive

Now 41 years old, Hamilton remains one of Formula 1’s most driven competitors.

When asked how he continues to perform at the highest level after nearly two decades in the sport, Hamilton described a constant process of self-reflection and improvement.

Hamilton admitted that his goal last season was to win the championship with Ferrari — a target he ultimately didn’t reach.
