Madonna congratulated Britney Spears on her wedding

in a very special way: by giving her a big kiss on the lips.

The stars reenacted their infamous 2003 VMAs kiss—sans Christina Aguilera—

at Spears’s nuptials to Sam Asghari last night.

One photo shows Spears—in a red minidress with fringe at the sleeves—leaning in to kiss Madonna, who wore a colorful robe dress. In another, Spears is seen smiling widely while Madonna holds her waist and smizes at the camera.

But their peck this time around was more friendship than scandal.

As some fans may recall, Spears, Madonna, and Aguilera performed “Like a Virgin” and “Hollywood” at the 2003 VMAs. Spears and Aguilera were dressed in white minidresses, like brides, and Madonna—the “groom”—wore a black catsuit. While singing “Hollywood,” Madonna grabbed Spears’s face and gave her a steamy kiss, before leaning over to also kiss Aguilera.

To this day, people reference the unexpected moment, and a photo of it is even being sold as an NFT by photographer John Shearer. The auction will start on October 7.

Madonna was among the few celebrities invited to Spears and Asghari’s intimate, 60-person wedding. Others included Selena Gomez, Paris Hilton, Drew Barrymore, and Donatella Versace, who designed the “Oops!…I Did It Again” singer’s romantic white gown.

The ceremony and party were held at Spears and Asghari’s home in Los Angeles. There were dreamy floral arrangements surrounding the property, and Spears had a total of four outfit changes: her wedding dress, a black Versace minidress, a two-tone outfit, and a red minidress—in which she kissed Madonna.
