Brittany Mahomes will support the Kansas City Chiefs, rain or shine.
At the NFL 2024 season opener at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Mo., on Thursday, Sept. 5, spectators — including Mahomes, 29 — were asked to shelter in place due to a strong but brief storm that passed over the stadium.
The storm barreled through, bringing down severe rain and lighting before the Chiefs faced off against the Baltimore Ravens.
Kickoff was originally scheduled for 7:20 p.m. local time, but has been delayed by 20 minutes to 7:40 p.m.
As the storm rolled through, quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ wife, Brittany, documented her and her daughter, Sterling Skye, 3, with Chiefs towels on their heads to protect themselves from the rain. In the video shared on her Instagram Stories, Brittany tells the camera, “We’re surviving,” as Sterling smiles softly at the camera.
At the kickoff game, Brittany, who is pregnant with the couple’s third child, wore a loose white t-shirt with a pair of cargo denim jeans that included the team’s colors, red and yellow, painted on the jeans’ seams. Sterling wore an adorable red dress, with matching ruffled red socks. Her hair was in pigtails with pink bows.
In addition to the Mahomes family and Chiefs fans sheltering in place, one more Chiefs fan, Taylor Swift, had to do the same.
Swift, 34, who is currently dating the Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, 34, arrived at the stadium before the storm came through. The singer arrived on a golf cart and greeted fans as she made her way into the stadium. “Hello… how are you guys?” said Swift as she showed off a strut in thigh-high boots, shorts and a bustier tank.
Chiefs CEO Clark Hunt said on Today earlier Thursday that Swift’s presence at games and her relationship with Kelce has “certainly impacted our fanbase,” adding, “We have a lot more female fans now and, specifically, young female fans.”
The tight end’s mother, Donna, appeared at the team’s official pregame show, the World’s Largest Tailgate: Tailgate Games. During the event, Donna and Chiefs superfan Saturday Night Live star Heidi Gardner made friendship bracelets — a nod to Swift — using the Chiefs colors.
Donna arrived at the tailgate red carpet sporting a custom “Kelce” denim jacket — complete with Travis’s no. 87 embroidered on the front in Chiefs’ signature yellow and red colors — and a black Chiefs baseball hat.
Meanwhile, Travis showed up at the stadium in a cool and confident ensemble. The three-time Super Bowl champion rocked a white and brown jacket and matching pants as he walked through the Arrowhead Stadium tunnel.
