Fred Vasseur didn’t close the door on the possibility of Carlos Sainz’s entry to Ferrari after Lewis Hamilton’s exit from the team.
Carlos Sainz enjoyed a four-year stint with Ferrari in Formula 1 and scored multiple race wins. The Spaniard was ousted from the team to make way for Lewis Hamilton from 2025 onwards.
Hence, the Italian constructor is preparing to welcome the seven-time world champion. However, amidst the impending move, the team kept the doors for a late return of Sainz in the future.
Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur reckoned that the team had already talked about the possibility of Carlos Sainz back. Vasseur noted that it was a ‘small world’ and there were only six or seven top drivers in terms of performance.
However, despite the possibilities in the future, the Frenchman claimed that the team needed to focus on their projects for the time being.
Of course. We have already talked a couple of times about this, this is a very small world. There are only 10 teams and only six or seven top drivers. You never know what is going to happen in the future, but most of us – both Carlos on his side and us on our side – have to focus on our projects.

Moreover, Vasseur put a question mark on the future for Ferrari and Sainz after Lewis Hamilton‘s exit. The Briton might leave the sport after the end of his tenure with the Italian constructor. The 56-year-old claimed that no one knew what would happen in 2027, 2028, or 2029.

Carlos Sainz labeled the final race with Ferrari as ‘strange’
Ferrari scored a double podium with Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc in the former’s final race with the team. However, Sainz fell short of words while describing his emotions regarding the final outing with Maranello. The 30-year-old reiterated that the feeling was more emotional than the last time he jumped in the car on the grid.
Strange. A bit emotional, I’m not going to lie, probably, I would say it was more emotional the last time that I jumped in the car, in the grid. I knew that was obviously going to be my last race with a group of people that I’ve enjoyed these last four years.

Sainz is already set to join Williams in 2025. The Grove-based constructor is working hard on providing the Spaniard with better conditions in the coming season. The 2025 F1 campaign will put forth some highly exciting opportunities for the 30-year-old.
