An iconic sports game series beloved by the likes of Travis and Jason Kelce has returned – sending fans wild on social media.
On Tuesday, it was announced that Backyard Sports – home to a franchise of baseball, football, basketball, hockey and soccer computer games – is back under company Playground Productions.
Playground said in a press release that the return would happen ‘in the coming months,’ and fans had a massive reaction to the company sharing a new trailer on X.
‘The world is healing,’ one said.
‘Just flashed [back] to my 7yr old childhood,’ another said.
‘This is what dreams are made of,’ a different fan wrote.
Even the Kelce’s New Heights podcast took credit for ‘manifest[ing]’ Backyard Sports’ return after Jason shared over the winter that he was exploring buying the rights to the franchise.
‘That was the best game ever,’ he said at the time. ‘It was so electric. Can you imagine playing ‘Backyard Football’ now on your phone? Because you can do that whole thing on your phone because it wasn’t that complicated of a game.’
‘1000 percent,’ his brother Travis replied.
And on Tuesday, the New Heights official X account wrote, ‘Add it to the list of things manifested on New Heights.’
Backyard Baseball, the most famous of the Backyard Sports games, was first released in 1997, with 11 versions of the game released since then.
The last release of the game came in 2015.
Seven years later, ‘lifelong Backyard Sports fan’ Lindsay Barnett founded Playground Productions and now the beloved series of games will soon be bacK.
‘Backyard Sports is more than just a game; it’s a cherished part of childhood for millions of people,’ Barnett said.
‘I look at media as the largest classroom in the world. As such, our goal is to produce meaningful content that not only entertains but also educates and inspires. The return of Backyard Sports is the perfect embodiment of that goal.’
