Jason Kelce Opens Up About His Biggest Fear in New NFL Broadcasting Role

Jason Kelce, the former Philadelphia Eagles star, is embarking on a new journey in NFL broadcasting with ESPN’s Monday Night Countdown.

However, as exciting as this new chapter is, Kelce recently revealed that he’s grappling with a significant fear as he transitions from the field to the screen.

In a candid conversation on the “Green Light With Chris Long” podcast, Kelce shared his concerns about not being fully prepared for his new broadcasting gig. “I guess I’m fearful that I’m not going to be prepared. Because I feel like there’s a lot more autonomy,” the 36-year-old explained. Having spent 13 successful seasons as a center for the Eagles, Kelce understands the demands of the NFL, but stepping into a broadcasting role presents a whole new set of challenges.

Kelce elaborated on the importance of staying connected to the game, even after retiring as a player. “Once you’re removed from it, you’ve got to go out of your way to really watch things and really iron in on what’s happening to do a reputable job,” he said. For Kelce, the fear of not doing justice to the analysis of the game and the players still competing is something that weighs heavily on his mind.

“My worst fear is not doing that well,” Kelce admitted, highlighting the responsibility he feels to accurately represent the game he loves. “When you get removed from it, it’s very easy I think for a former player to not truly understand what’s happening in a specific situation. But you still have to give your opinion, so doing that in a responsible way is what I really, really want to strive to do, that’s both accurate and correct.”

Kelce’s transition to broadcasting comes just months after his emotional retirement from the NFL, where he tearfully bid farewell to his playing career during a press conference in May 2024. The former Eagle was drafted in 2011 and became a key player for the team, leading them to a Super Bowl victory in 2018. Reflecting on his career, Kelce expressed his deep connection to Philadelphia, saying, “It has always been a goal of mine to play my whole career in one city. I couldn’t have dreamt a better one and a better fit if I tried.”

Now, as Kelce prepares to bring his insights and passion for football to millions of viewers on ESPN, he’s embracing the challenges that lie ahead. “I’m excited to join ESPN, and particularly the Monday Night Countdown team. ESPN was a consistent presence in our household growing up and the network helped shape who I am and my love of all sports,” Kelce said. “And, I mean it’s freaking Monday Night Football! and I’m ready for some football.”

With his debut already making waves, including a memorable appearance wearing a beret from the 2024 Paris Olympics, Kelce is stepping into the broadcasting world with his trademark authenticity and dedication. Fans are eager to see how he will tackle this new role, but one thing is clear: Jason Kelce is committed to bringing his best to the screen, just as he did on the field.
