The NFL alum shares the reasons behind their tough decision
Jason Kelce, known for his candidness and vibrant personality, is making headlines again, but this time it’s about a more personal matter.
The former Philadelphia Eagles center, who has never shied away from sharing personal aspects of his life, is now taking a step back from the spotlight when it comes to his children.
Kelce’s openness is well-documented, from admitting online he doesn’t wash his feet to going shirtless at playoff football games.
His family life was also featured in the documentary “Kelce,” which highlighted his career and his deliberation over retiring after the 2022-2023 football season.
However, since his brother Travis Kelce’s relationship with Taylor Swift went public in September 2023, the Kelce family’s exposure has significantly increased. Fans of the pop star have turned their attention to Jason, his wife Kylie, and their mother Donna, leading to a surge in public interest in their family.
In an interview with TODAY.com, Jason Kelce shared that he and his wife Kylie are now more cautious about how much of their family life they share online. “We were showing a lot of our kids early on on the show, not a lot, but a few clips. And Kylie and I have made a conscious effort that we want to scale back a little bit there,” he said.
The couple has three daughters: Wyatt, 4, Elliotte, 3, and Bennett, 1. Bennett was born just weeks after Jason and his brother faced off in the 2023 Super Bowl. The Kelce family has always valued authenticity and openness, but they are now reevaluating how much they want to expose their children to the public eye.
Jason explained, “I think there’s a point where you know, showing the kids is good. But there’s another point where you don’t want to do too much of that. For us, we’ve come to the realization, let’s not put them out there that much at this young of an age.”
Despite scaling back on sharing their children’s lives, Jason and Kylie continue to be as genuine and transparent as possible. The documentary “Kelce” showcases the NFL star’s softer side, depicting moments of him reading to his daughters, playing with them despite injuries, and comforting them after his Super Bowl loss.
Promoting his partnership with charcoal company Kingsford, Jason caught up with TODAY.com to discuss his family life post-retirement, the success of his podcast “New Heights,” and the unique position he finds himself in as a link between sports-following fathers and pop-culture-loving daughters.
The decision to share less about their children is a thoughtful one, reflecting the Kelce family’s commitment to protecting their kids’ privacy while navigating their public lives.
