Despite his best efforts, former Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce couldn’t persuade his wife, Kylie, to don Kansas City Chiefs gear for Super Bowl LVIII.
Her steadfast loyalty to Philadelphia kept her from sporting the rival team’s colors, even as she supported her brother-in-law, Travis Kelce, and the Chiefs in their epic showdown against the San Francisco 49ers.
The couple was in Las Vegas to watch Travis and the Chiefs compete in the NFL’s end-of-season spectacle.
The game turned out to be a nail-biter, with Kansas City clinching victory in the final three seconds of overtime, making them the first team to secure back-to-back Super Bowl championships in nearly 20 years.
Jason Kelce, fully immersed in the celebratory spirit, was seen in the stands enthusiastically cheering for his brother while wearing Chiefs-themed overalls and a red and yellow shirt emblazoned with Travis’ nickname, “Big Yeti.” Kylie, however, chose a different approach. She wore a red University of Cincinnati sweater, honoring the alma mater shared by both her husband and Travis, but refused to wear any Chiefs merchandise.
On the latest episode of the “New Heights” podcast, co-hosted by Jason and Travis Kelce, Jason revealed his wife’s unwavering loyalty to the Eagles. “Kylie got some love from Philadelphia fans for her continued refusal to wear Chiefs gear, even though she has personal connections,” Jason said. “She just does not want to do it. She’ll wear other universities but won’t wear other NFL teams.”
Travis chimed in, expressing his appreciation for Kylie’s support. “I appreciate it, Kylie. I appreciate you even wearing red. You could have worn something neutral and showed your support. You showing up was enough for me.”
Jason recounted his attempts to change Kylie’s mind before the big game. “I’ve tried and said to Kylie, ‘We have family in the game. It’s okay to cheer on that team. They’re not playing the Eagles. You do realize this isn’t against the Eagles, right?’ But she just refuses.”
Kylie’s commitment to her superstitions also played a role in her game-day behavior. She hilariously revealed on Instagram how she avoided watching the Super Bowl from the stands, instead relying on the reactions of her friend Sarah King to stay updated. “At some point Sunday, my superstition kicked in hard. I refused to watch the game even on the TVs. Here is Sarah King being the real MVP. I was just watching her reactions, and that kept me in the loop,” she wrote.
Jason, on the other hand, fully embraced the Super Bowl festivities. He attended concerts, hit the casino with Kylie, and celebrated the Chiefs’ win in style. After Kansas City’s victory, footage surfaced of the 36-year-old dancing exuberantly in his Chiefs overalls and a wrestling mask at the victory party. Reflecting on his outfit choice, Jason said, “I had to bring out the Chiefs overalls for this one. I was trying to figure out what to wear, and I thought if I went with the Chiefs overalls and I had straps that could hold my shirt down, the straps would hold my shirt down so I couldn’t take it off when I felt the desire to be more composed.”
Travis, never missing a beat, joked, “Nothing would have been better than seeing your nipples on the field, man.”
Despite their differing loyalties, the Kelce family’s bond and mutual support were on full display, making this Super Bowl a memorable event for all.
