Kate Middleton and Prince William could be about to break very old royal tradition to ‘protect’ Prince George

Both Kate Middleton and Prince William followed the long-standing tradition

The royal family is known for its long-standing traditions, but it seems Prince William and Kate Middleton could be prepared to break one in favour of ‘protecting’ their children.

King Charles and his late father Prince Philip followed the tradition, as well as both William and Kate.

Whether or not they break the tradition will be dependent on ‘how the children’s personalities develop’, according to a royal expert.

Ingrid Seward, editor-in-chief of Majesty Magazine and royal biographer, previously told Spanish publication Quien that they may avoid sending Prince George, as well as their other two children – Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis – to boarding school.

Unlike his mum and dad who were both shipped off – with William enrolled into Ludgrove School at the age of just eight – they could be keen for their eldest boy to live at home while attending school.

Seward explained: “We are used to seeing members of royalty breaking tradition these days, so it won’t come as much of a shock if they do things their way.Kate Middleton and Prince William could be about to break very old royal tradition to ‘protect’ Prince George

“I think William and Kate’s opinion will be if the children are happy in their school, why change things.

“They are modern parents and will weigh up the decision very carefully.

“I think they’ll wait to see how the children’s personalities develop and take into consideration whether or not they would be happy to live away from home.”

She also claimed that traumatic public events that happened early in William’s life could impact how he looks out for his children’s mental health over anything else.

However, despite the couple potentially wanting to keep their babies in the nest, the expert suggested that George being second-in-line to the throne could mean he is actually safer at boarding school.

She said: “If I was Kate though, I’d feel more secure if George, as heir to the throne, was tucked away at boarding school.

“He’ll have more freedom there and he’ll be very protected from any outside dangers.”

In June 2023, Prince George was spotted visiting Eton College, the school his dad attended, with his parents. He has reportedly sat the first set of entrance exams which are required to earn a place.

All three royal children are currently enrolled at Lambrook School in Berkshire – a co-educational Prep School that has over 600 pupils.
