Former Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce has firmly closed the door on any speculation about a potential return to the NFL. Despite spending considerable time around his former team this offseason, Kelce’s significant weight loss and commitment to his post-playing career make an unretirement highly unlikely.
Kelce, who retired in March after 13 stellar seasons with the Eagles, has shed 20 pounds from his playing weight of 295, with a goal of reaching 260 pounds. Speaking to The Associated Press, Kelce made it clear that his playing days are behind him.
“They’re not going to call me to come back and play center at 260 pounds, and I’m moving on to the next thing,” Kelce said. He expressed confidence in his successor, Cam Jurgens, predicting that Jurgens will “flourish at center” in the upcoming season.
The 36-year-old All-Pro center cited health concerns as a primary factor in his decision to retire, mentioning arthritis as an ongoing issue. “My days of playing are just done and I do not foresee any scenario taking place other than maybe medicine inventing a way to get rid of arthritis that I would ever entertain coming back at all anymore,” Kelce stated.

While Kelce has remained a frequent presence at the Eagles’ practice facility throughout the offseason and training camp, his focus has shifted to his budding media career. He has joined ESPN’s “Monday Night Football” coverage and continues to co-host the popular “New Heights” podcast with his brother, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.
Kelce’s retirement marks the end of an era for the Eagles, but his legacy as a potential Hall of Famer and his continued involvement with the team ensure that his impact will be felt for years to come. As the Eagles move forward, they’ll do so with Kelce’s blessing and support from the sidelines, rather than the center of the offensive line.
