Hamilton further thanked those involved in the Met Gala and emphasized the importance of honoring Black culture.
Lewis Hamilton stepped away from the racetrack and onto one of fashion’s biggest stages this week, serving as one of the co-chairs for the 2025 Met Gala. The seven-time Formula One world champion took to social media shortly after the event to share an emotional message, reflecting on what the opportunity meant to him personally and culturally.
“It’s hard to put into words what it means to co-chair this year’s Met,” Hamilton wrote. “This year’s theme speaks to royalty, spirituality, and the sacred power of adornment.”
He also highlighted the cultural symbolism behind the fashion choices presented during the evening.
“Materials like ivory and cowrie aren’t just beautiful—they carry ancestral memory. They are markers of identity, protection, and reverence.”
Honoring Heritage Through Fashion
Hamilton further thanked those involved in the Met Gala and emphasized the importance of honoring Black culture and identity in spaces of high fashion.
“I’m deeply grateful to the Costume Institute at The Met, to Grace Wales Bonner, to the incredible co-chairs, and to everyone who continues to honour the legacy of the Black Dandy,” he added. “We’ve always been here. We’ve always been fly. And now, we’re seen.”
A Champion On and Off the Track
While Hamilton’s 2025 Formula One campaign has yet to reach full momentum, his influence continues to grow beyond the sport. Whether it’s pushing for diversity in motorsport or making bold fashion statements, the British icon remains a powerful voice both on and off the track.
