Six-time F1 race winner Ralf Schumacher recently claimed that Lewis Hamilton will never reach his brother Michael Schumacher’s level in terms of achievements. The 49-year-old feels Hamilton is far away from what Michael has achieved in the sport.

In his career, Michael Schumacher won seven world championships and 91 races. At his peak, he clinched five titles back-to-back with Ferrari from 2000 to 2004, dominating the entire grid with ease. These achievements made him one of the best F1 drivers in history.

On the other hand, Lewis Hamilton also had a glittering career where he, too, won seven world championships. However, when race wins are compared, he has more race wins under his belt than Schumacher, with 105 Grand Prixs.

He also has more podiums and more pole positions than the German legend. Despite all this, Ralf feels Hamilton is nowhere near his brother’s achievements and level.

In an interview with Formel1.de, Ralf Schumacher gave his opinion that when Hamilton was at his peak, people felt that he could “walk on water”. The German driver then mentioned how Max Verstappen quickly rose to the top and fans believed that he too could be invincible. Ralf claimed that the Red Bull star could go further in terms of achievements when compared to Lewis Hamilton.

“Even Lewis Hamilton will never come close. Not in light years, from my point of view,”
The former F1 driver added:

We thought that Lewis Hamilton could walk on water. That didn’t work. We thought that Max Verstappen could walk on water. Although in my opinion, in terms of talent, he could actually go further than Lewis Hamilton. That’s how it is. that makes even more of a difference,”

Former Mercedes senior James Vowles gave his opinion that Lewis Hamilton and Michael Schumacher were two of the most naturally talented drivers he has ever worked with in his career.

Speaking on the High-Performance podcast, he explained Hamilton’s mentality and his sheer will to win when he first joined Mercedes. Vowles also touches on the Brit’s maturity, saying how the seven-time world champion now knows that finishing second or third in a few races could also allow him to win championships.

“Lewis, when he joined us – and still is today – the most naturally talented driver I’ve worked with including Michael (Schumacher). His mentality at the time [when he joined the team] was a brilliant one. It was ‘I’m going to win every race at all costs’ but if you speak to him today, he accepts that it’s the second places and third places that win championships.” (37:22.)
After 2024, Hamilton will leave Mercedes after 12 years of success and move to Ferrari in hopes of clinching his record-breaking eighth world title in Michael Schumacher’s former team.
