The moment Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce comforted a young female fan after inadvertently hitting her with a golf ball during the 35th annual American Century Championship was captured on video, drawing widespread attention.
The incident occurred on Saturday at the Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course, where Kelce was competing.
While on the 16th hole, Kelce’s drive veered off course and struck a young girl in the audience, causing a noticeable injury. Eyewitnesses reported seeing streaks of blood in her blonde hair.
Footage shows Kelce, a three-time Super Bowl winner, immediately rushing to the injured spectator’s side, offering comfort as she received medical attention on the course. Despite another near-miss shot that caused the crowd to react in unison, Kelce remained close to the fan, with security stepping in to shield her from the crowd.
Kelce, aware of the growing concern, advised the surrounding audience, “I’m going to say you guys should probably move out of the way,” before walking away from the scene. His brother, Jason Kelce, who was also participating in the tournament, checked on the injured fan as well. The young girl, unsure which of the Kelce brothers hit the errant shot, was able to stand after several minutes and was eventually transported off the course by staff.
Despite the interruption, play resumed quickly, and Kelce finished his first round tied with legendary pitcher Roger Clemens and SNL alum Colin Jost in 62nd place, a notable drop from his winning performance in the 2023 tournament.
In a recent episode of their podcast “New Heights,” Travis offered his brother Jason some humorous advice about the event. When Jason asked for tips, Travis joked, “My advice would be don’t feel bad if you hit somebody because they bought the ticket.”
The incident highlights the unpredictable nature of live sports events and the human moments that can emerge, even among star athletes.
