Lewis Hamilton responded with coldness and determination to the recent appeal of Fernando Alonso, who had invoked more severe penalties in Formula 1 after the chaotic race of the Monaco Grand Prix.
After the FIA has launched a sudden investigation on some maneuvers made during the race, in particular in the first laps on the wet track, Alonso had publicly asked for a harder review of the regulation to prevent dangerous behavior.
However, Hamilton’s reply has arrived dry, unexpected and consisting only of seven words: “They always speak, but they never change anything”.

A declaration that perfectly summarizes the disenchantment of the seven -time world champion towards the penalty management system in Formula 1. The Mercedes pilot, which concluded the Monaco race in fifth position after a prudent strategy, has avoided any direct involvement in the controversy raised, preferring to remain concentrated on its performance and on the future developments of the championship. Despite the growing pressure between the teams and the pilots for greater consistency by the FIA in his decisions, Hamilton has hinted that, according to him, many words do not lead to real changes.
The context of the investigation attracted the attention of the media and fans. According to some sources, the FIA was analyzing the behavior of multiple pilots at the start, when the adherence was at the limit and several cars went very close to contact. Alonso, for his part, had pointed his finger at those who “play with fire” in the first curves, asking that the government body intervene with more decision. His position, however, was not shared by everyone, and Hamilton is the most evident proof of this.

The blow and response between two of the strongest personalities of the paddock reflects a climate of growing tension, also fueled by an increasingly competitive championship and by political strategies internal to the teams. Hamilton, who has a past of duels lit right with Alonso since McLaren’s time in 2007, seems not to want to feed further controversies but, at the same time, he has not missed the opportunity to launch a thin and pungent arrow.

Pending the definitive results of the FIA investigation and any official measures, Hamilton’s words remain impressed as a criticism implicit to the entire decision -making system of the Circus. The general impression is that, despite the proclamations, there is still a long way to go to guarantee a coherent and respected application of the regulation. In the meantime, the championship continues, and the protagonists are already projected towards the next appointment, aware that each declaration, even the shortest, can have a huge weight in the narration of the season.
