Patrick Mahomes added another record to his resume in the Kansas City Chiefs’ opener against the Baltimore Ravens.
Mahomes hit Travis Kelce in the second quarter for 23 yards, which pushed him past Len Dawson’s career mark of 28,507 yards.
A Hall of Famer, Dawson set the record over 183 games and 3,696 pass attempts. Mahomes achieved it in his 97th regular-season start with his 3,600th career pass attempt.

The Chiefs celebrated Mahomes’ accomplishment on social media.
“No one left to pass but himself,” the post said. “Congratulations on the MOST passing yards in franchise history.”
Mahomes also achieved the feat in the most “Mahomes” way possible. Three Ravens defenders were closing in before Mahomes rolled out to his right and found Kelce for the big gain.
Mahomes entered Thursday night’s Week 1 matchup against the Ravens needing just 84 passing yards to surpass Len Dawson on the all-time Chiefs passing yards list.
The franchise passing mark is just the latest feather in Mahomes’ cap. He has already cemented his place as one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history with an impressive list of accomplishments.
A three-time Super Bowl champion (LIV, LVII, LVIII) and three-time Super Bowl MVP, Mahomes has delivered clutch performances on the biggest stage. He has also been named NFL MVP twice (2018, 2022) and was honored as the NFL Offensive Player of the Year in 2018.
