It was a quiet, deeply meaningful moment—one that bridged three generations of the royal family.

Earlier this month, Prince William brought his eldest son, Prince George, to The Passage, the homelessness charity that his late mother, Princess Diana, first introduced him to more than three decades ago.

The father-and-son visit took place on December 16—almost exactly 32 years after Diana took a young William to the same organization in 1993. During the visit, 12-year-old George was invited to sign The Passage’s guestbook. As he leaned over the page, he noticed something remarkable: his grandmother’s signature, written decades earlier.

According to reports, George paused, visibly captivated, and softly reacted with, “Wow, okay,” as he took in the moment. It was a simple response—yet one filled with weight, history, and connection.

Mick Clarke, CEO of The Passage, described the visit as a “proud dad moment” for William. Standing beside his son, William was able to point to the signature and say, “That’s my mum,” explaining that this very place marked one of the first times Diana taught him about compassion, service, and humanity.

William himself was just 11 years old when he first visited The Passage with his mother. George, now 12, followed in nearly the same footsteps. During the visit, the two future kings helped prepare Christmas lunches for people experiencing homelessness—an experience Clarke said George approached with enthusiasm and maturity.

“He just wanted to roll his sleeves up and get stuck in,” Clarke shared. “Very much like his dad.”

The symbolism of the day was unmistakable. One page of a guestbook now carries three signatures: Diana, William, and George—spanning from 1993 to 2025. Clarke described it as a moment that brought everything “full circle.”

William has often spoken about how deeply his mother shaped his worldview, especially regarding homelessness. Since becoming royal patron of The Passage in 2019, he has said those childhood visits left a “deep and lasting impression” on him—an impression he is now carefully passing on to his own children.
