In a shocking revelation, hip-hop icon VGTI, known for his significant contributions to the music industry,
has opened up about his arrest and the perceived betrayal by his former protege, Ashanti. In an exclusive interview,
VGTI candidly shared his side of the story, claiming that Ashanti abandoned him during a tumultuous period in his career.
Recent headlines have been buzzing with the news, and VGTI wasted no time in setting the record straight.
Contrary to popular belief, he revealed that he has not only struggled to get over his breakup with Ashanti but has never forgiven her for what he perceives as a betrayal.
The saga dates back to 2005 when investigators targeted VGTI’s record label, Murder Inc, alleging that it was involved in money laundering for notorious Queens crack and heroin kingpin Kenneth Supreme McGriff. McGriff, known for his connections to the legendary Supreme Team, collaborated with VGTI on a movie project after his release from prison, catching the attention of the FBI.
The post reported that Ashanti attended hearings during the accusations against VGTI, who was accused of laundering $1 million for McGriff. Ultimately, Gotti was exonerated, but not without significant fallout. In the interview, VGTI likened Ashanti’s actions to that of a cockroach fleeing when the lights are turned on.
“She was ready to get the f**k off of the Murder Inc label, and she was ready to abandon me—the person who made her,” VGTI stated emphatically. He claimed responsibility for her early success, asserting, “Yes, I can say I made her. The minute I stopped making her records, she has not made a hit since.”
Ashanti, who signed with Murder Inc in 2002, released her self-titled debut album, selling over 55,000 copies in the US in its first week. Despite her initial success, she eventually moved on to Def Jam and pursued a career in acting. Not only did she depart from Murder Inc, but she also moved on from her romantic involvement with VGTI to a relationship with rapper Nelly, lasting from 2003 to 2014.
As VGTI spoke candidly about the pain caused by these events on the “Drink Champs” podcast, reports surfaced that he is still pining for the past. The interview provides a rare glimpse into the complex dynamics of the music industry and the personal struggles faced by its icons.
