Surrounded by loved ones, MacGowan’s life came to a peaceful end at 3 a.m. His wife, Victoria Mary Clarke, shared a heartfelt message on social media, reflecting the profound loss felt by his family and fans. “There’s no way to describe the loss that I am feeling and the longing for just one more of his smiles that lit up my world,” Clarke expressed, remembering MacGowan as her life’s love and a soul of immense beauty.

No Cause of Death Announced

While MacGowan’s cause of death remains unspecified, he was known for his lifestyle marked by intense alcohol and drug use. The singer’s health had been a concern for some time.

MacGowan’s Final Year

In late 2022, during the Christmas period, MacGowan was hospitalized and had been under medical care since. He was diagnosed with encephalitis, a severe and potentially fatal brain inflammation. This condition often demands immediate medical intervention. Reports also noted that MacGowan, confined to a wheelchair since 2015, had been admitted to the hospital earlier in the month for an unspecified condition but was discharged just a week before his passing.
