Although Travis Kelce wasn’t present at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards, the Kansas City Chiefs star found a way to cheer on his girlfriend, Taylor Swift, from a distance.
Kelce, 34, showed his support by liking a video posted by MTV’s official Instagram account after Swift, also 34, took home the prestigious Video of the Year award at the event held in New York City on Wednesday, September 11th.
MTV’s post read, “One person cheers louder for Taylor Swift than I do, and that’s Killer Trav at the VMAs,” acknowledging Kelce’s public support of his girlfriend.
Swift, who swept the awards show with multiple wins, even gave a shoutout to Kelce during her acceptance speech.
While reflecting on the fun she had while filming her Fortnite music video, Swift delighted fans by gushing about Kelce’s support. “Something that I’ll always remember is when I would finish a take and I’d say cut, and we’d be done with that take, I would always just hear someone cheering, ‘Woo!’ from across the studio where we were shooting it,” she shared. “And that one person was my boyfriend, Travis.”
Swift didn’t stop there, adding, “Everything this man touches turns to happiness, fun, and magic. So, I want to thank him for adding that to our shoot because I’ll always remember that.”
At this year’s VMAs, Swift walked away with several major awards, including Artist of the Year, Best Collaboration, Best Pop, Best Direction, Best Editing, and Song of the Summer. Her six wins brought her career total to a staggering 30 VMAs. Swift had been nominated in an impressive 12 categories at the 2024 ceremony.
Fans were hopeful that Kelce might join Swift in person at the event, following their whirlwind weekend in New York City. The couple, who have been dating since last summer, was spotted attending a wedding at Electric Lady Studios on September 7th, and they were seen together at the U.S. Open the next day alongside Patrick and Brittany Mahomes. Swift and Kelce were photographed dancing and enjoying the tennis tournament, with the pair showing plenty of affection.
Despite missing the chance to cheer for Swift in person at the VMAs, Kelce expressed his excitement for her during the latest episode of his New Heights podcast, which he co-hosts with his brother, Jason Kelce. “Hopefully, Taylor can walk away with a few [awards],” Travis said. “She’s nominated for about 10 of those things tonight… hopefully she can walk away with some Moonmen. Those are always one of the cooler trophies.”
Jason, 36, added his thoughts, teasing, “Unless you’re up against Tay. Then I hope you lose.”
With Swift’s VMAs victories and Kelce’s public support, the couple continues to capture fans’ hearts both on and off the stage. As their relationship blossoms, fans eagerly await what’s next for one of pop culture’s most high-profile couples.
