Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton hilariously explained why he was not a Taylor Swift fan during a recent WhatsApp event held in Austin ahead of the 2024 US GP. Hamilton’s comments come after his teammate George Russell had accepted being a ‘Swiftie’ last month.
The British driver is often spotted rubbing shoulders with the bigwigs from the world of entertainment and music away from his track duties.
During a fan interaction at the Azerbaijan GP last month, the 39-year-old had hilariously pulled the leg of his compatriot Russell after the latter said that he was a ‘Swiftie’.
However, Lewis Hamilton found himself in the firing line after F1 pundit Naomi Schiff asked why the Mercedes driver did not consider himself as a ‘swiftie’ at a recent WhatsApp event in Austin, Texas on October 17 ahead of the US GP.
She asked:
“So why are you not a swiftie?”
To which Hamilton replied:
“I didn’t say I’m not a swiftie, but to be (fair), WHAT IS A SWIFTIE? you have to be pretty hardcore..?”
Schiff clarified:
“Well yeah, you need to be into taylor swift’s music..”
Lewis Hamilton concluded the hilarious exchange by adding:
“Well yeah I just told you one of her songs that I love, but I don’t know all her songs and I don’t particularly listen to albums anymore.”

Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton has often shared his love and influence of music in his life and reaffirmed those claims during his exclusive interview with Rolling Stone published on September 05.
In his exclusive interview, the soon-to-be Ferrari driver said:
“Music is the biggest part of my life. It’s the most important thing that keeps me sane. In a sport where you don’t feel like you could fit in, where you know you’re different, but you can’t really talk too much and there’s no way to express yourself other than in a car, to then have music and be able to put my feelings out into something.”
Hamilton has often dabbled into the line of music and enjoys the process of writing but remains unsure of what kind of music he wants to make, adding:
“I go through these phases where I’m doing a lot, I’m writing a lot, and I’m recording a lot, and really feeling inspired. And then I go through these periods where I just stop doing it; I do it less and less and less, and then I stop setting my mic up.”
Despite his off-track interests, Lewis Hamilton has remained one of the highest performers on track as well evidenced by his two races in the 2024 season. He is currently P6 in the driver’s championship with 174 points with six races and three Sprints remaining this year.
